Blog Assignment#27 2hr reflection

1. I think I am most proud of the fact that I felt that many students answered my questions and participated within their groups and had active discussions about Nutrition. Also, when I let them eat the food, half a bag of hot cheetos was still left over while all of the fruit was gone.
2a. I would give myself a P because I felt that I fulfilled the rubric requirements on the rubric for P consideration.
2b. On my overall senior project, I would give myself an AP because I turned in many components late, which is not good.
3. What Worked: 2 hour presentation, 20 minute presentation, 2 minute presenation, Junior Interview and Servive learning.
4. What didn't work: deadlines in general.......seriously.
5.Senior project has been helpful to me because I have learned a lot about Nutrition and how to track my diet to make sure that I stay on track with my vitamin and macronutrient intake levels. In the future, when I go to college - I avoid the "freshman 15" since I am required to have a campus meal plan.

Blog Assignment #25 Service Learning

Literal.
Service Learning Log

Contact name and #:Donna Cyrus (909)-596-7733 Ext.3310

Interpretive.
The most important thing I gained from this experience was seeing how the food served in the hospital was prepared. Also, learning how to measure things out according to specific serving size and Nutrition Facts label. Not to mention, working with other people to get several tasks finished; tray line and restocking, for example.

Applied.
My Service Learning helped me find one of my answers: Reading and Interpreting the Nutrition Facts Labe. At Casa Colina, each meal is planned by a dietician who also calculates the Nutrients in a particular meal.

Blog Assignment 23: Helping 2013

Who I interviewed: Perla Villapuda
Date and Time: Thursday, April 26 1:00 P.M. in the Counseling Office

1. What ideas do you have for your senior project and why?
P: I don't really have a good idea but I was thinking like um.. you know like those kids that have mental problems-special kids. But the only thing is: What if I get stuck?
A: So you want to go into teaching Special Educaton?
P: Yeah, I guess you could say that.
A:Well, I think that's a good idea- my friend Diana is doing her project on teaching at-risk first graders and she's able to do her Service Learning at her old elementary school.

2. What do you plan to do over the summer to complete the 10 hours of Service Learning?
P: I haven't really thought about that just yet, but I know I could get ten hours done before school starts, I just need to settle on my topic.
A: Well if you do eventually decide to continue with Special Education, what could you do for Service Learning?
P: I guess I could go to one of the schools in my area and volunteer to work with the special children. But right now, i'm really just focusing on what my topic will be.
A: Yeah, definitely. A lot of schools are usually receptive to volunteers.

3. What do you expect to see when watching the senior presentations this year?
P: When I see the presentations, ill make notes to myself whether I thought they presented well or not or if I liked their project topic. I'll use it as kind of guide of what I might want to do my senior year.
A: That's really good, because I think a lot of juniors just used the time last year  and said"yaay we get out of class" and didn't really pay attention to the projects. But if you make like a mental list of what you liked and didn't like, then your'e off to a good start.

4. What Questions do you have about Senior Project?
P: Is it hard?
A: Yes, it is- not gonna lie. I guess it isn't that hard if you really have your stuff together and you turn in all your components on time, and take the time to get in depth with your topic then you should be fine. But I think the most important advise I can give you is: Don't procrastinate! Not trying to scare you or anything, but its just a giant snowball effect if you get in the habit of doing things last-minute.

1. For my room setup I would like to get some sort of wall covering- like maybe a black sort of tarp-thing that I saw in a lot of presentations last year. I would also like to arrange the desks in groups of four or five students and then cover the groups of tables with different color tablecloths.
2. For one of my answer 1 or answer 2 activities, I would like to incorporate different food products and why which one is better to eat and why a certain product wouldn't be good to eat. I would like to bring healthy snacks for the participants.

Blog Assignment #19 Second Answer

Know the limits on fats, salt, and sugar by learning to read the nutrition facts label.

Nutrition Facts Label:
Important things to know about Nutrition Facts:
  • Serving Size
  • Total and Saturated Fat

As of March, I believe that my product is that I have learned to eat healthier, and cook better food. Lately I have been tracking my diet on the app for android called MyFitness Pal. This way I can see exactly what I am eating and how much nutrients I am getting from it- and which I am getting too much of. I have also started Service Learning where I have been helping to cut vegetables for salads and make other healthy foods like whole wheat turkey sandwiches.

Blog Assignment #16 Independent Component 2 Approval

1. I would like to continue the work that I have done for my first component as I feel that I can learn more about Nutrition in a hands on way. I will also be tracking my diet using myfitness pal for android. And, this semester I will have my dietary service learning at Casa Colina which will also help me better understand my topic.
2. I think my plan will meet the thirty hours of work requirement because cooking a meal at least twice a week will take a few hours of preparation and cooking time- it depends on how advanced the recipe is.
3. My Independent Component relates to my EQ because a lot of times, people end up with a health concern because they are eating too much fast food that is virtually devoid of nurtients. Cooking at home, using healthy recipes will help to get more nutrients in a daily diet.

EHSS :)

Eslrs: Lifelong Learner and User of Technology
L- I am focusing on these two ESLRS because I believe I could focus more on these while doing my senior project. So far, I haven't done too bad when it comes to the research but using the technology has been a challenge. Namely because over the christmas break I got a laptop and a new phone. However, I still don't have internet in my house.
To become better at these things I will have to work harder to make sure all of my computer work is done in advance and avoid procrastination. This means using the wifi at starbucks or Cal poly to complete my work and finding time in my schedule to do so.
This will help me become a better studebt and help me develop better study habits in the future. Also, hopefully this will also translate into better grades because if I spend time working on something, it will lead to a better product.
